Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) is urging the Indonesian Students Association Worldwide (PPI Dunia) to play an active role in integrating international certifications relevant to the needs of Indonesian students.

The statement was made by BNSP Chairman Syamsi Hari during an audience with PPI Dunia, as conveyed in a press statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

“PPI Dunia is expected to seek out and integrate international certifications and bring international standards into national standards,” said Syamsi Hari.

During the audience, PPI Dunia presented its organisational profile and various work programmes, including the Internal Learning Series (ILS) as an internal capacity-building programme through training and certification.

PPI Dunia also conveyed that there is considerable interest among Indonesian students and alumni abroad in returning to and working in Indonesia.

In response, the BNSP Chairman emphasised the importance of raising competency awareness among the younger generation as a key factor in strengthening the quality of human resources.

Syamsi added that certifications issued by BNSP are internationally recognised and serve as an important instrument in ensuring the standard of capability of Indonesia’s workforce.

He also assessed that PPI Dunia has the potential to identify various types of certifications popular overseas that are not yet widely known in Indonesia. He therefore encouraged PPI Dunia to be more active in integrating national certification in accordance with students’ needs.

Syamsi cited his agency’s experience in certifying various professions, including Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). Such certification has been strictly applied across a number of fields, for example halal auditors who are required to hold certification.

Furthermore, Syamsi expressed appreciation for PPI Dunia’s initiative in arranging the meeting as a tangible contribution towards improving the quality of Indonesian human resources.

“BNSP is proud of PPI Dunia’s initiative in conducting this audience,” said Syamsi.
