BNPT RI says radicalism threat in Riau Islands declines

Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has stated that the threat of radicalism in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri) has decreased over the past two years, based on the results of the 2025 Radicalism Potential Index (IPR) survey. According to the survey conducted by BNPT, Kepri’s IPR for 2025 stands at 13.1, relatively stable compared to 2024, and down from 13.7 in 2023. “It is hoped that these IPR results will serve as a basis for developing adaptive and evidence-based prevention programmes,” said Teuku Fauzansyah, Sub-coordinator for Research and Evaluation at BNPT, during the internalisation of the 2025 IPR Survey results through the Monday-Thursday Study series organised by the Riau Islands Terrorism Prevention Coordination Forum (FKPT) in Tanjungpinang on Thursday. Teuku Fauzansyah conveyed that the IPR survey is a strategic instrument for understanding the community’s level of vulnerability to radical ideologies and for formulating more targeted prevention policies. “Multi-party collaboration is crucial in strengthening community resilience against radical ideologies,” he said. Meanwhile, FKPT Kepri researcher Muhamaad Zaenuddin explained that the 2025 IPR research was conducted on 350 respondents in Batam City, Tanjungpinang City, and Bintan Regency using face-to-face interview methods. In addition to mapping radicalism potential, the research also measured the level of public awareness of BNPT and FKPT, as well as community behaviour in accessing religious content in the digital space.
