BNPT Focuses on Reintegrating Terrorism Convicts through Skills Provision
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is focusing on the reintegration of terrorism convicts (napiter) through the provision of tangible skills. While receiving a working visit from the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday (9/4), BNPT Head Eddy Hartono stated that these measures are being taken as preparation before the convicts fully return to society. “The model of convict rehabilitation with a skills-provision approach is one of the methods implemented at Sentul Class II B Prison,” said Eddy, as confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. During the BNN visit, he demonstrated the rehabilitation processes for convicts under BNPT’s auspices. He explained that the majority of inmates at Sentul Class II B Prison are terrorism convicts serving the remaining one to two years of their sentences. The BNPT Head also welcomed the BNN delegation and described the visit as concrete collaboration between the two institutions. “This is an honour and pride for BNPT with the presence of the BNN Head and his entourage, serving as proof that synergy and collaboration are paramount,” he stated. Appreciation was also expressed by BNN Head Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, who said that BNPT’s rehabilitation model can change inmates’ mindsets through productivity. He hopes that through soft skills or interpersonal training, the convicts will build personal resilience to avoid falling back into radical ideologies. “We also saw earlier how BNPT conducts this rehabilitation exceptionally here. Not only are they detained, but they are also trained in soft skills so that after leaving here, they have the provisions to be more productive, and hopefully, they won’t return,” said Suyudi. The collaboration between BNPT and BNN is expected to grow stronger and more effective in realising a secure and resilient Indonesia free from terrorism and narcotics threats.
