National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of the Republic of Indonesia plans to inaugurate Temajuk Border Crossing Post (PLB) in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, which borders directly with Malaysia. BNPP Secretary General Commissioner General Pol. Makhruzi Rahman said the inauguration of Temajuk PLB is targeted for mid-2026. The inauguration awaits completion of road access to Temajuk, which is still in the upgrade process.

‘The plan for the inauguration of Temajuk PLB is targeted for mid-2026, awaiting completion of road work in Temajuk,’ said Commissioner General Makhruzi Rahman in a written statement, Thursday (5/3/2026). The plan was communicated when Secretary General Makhruzi Rahman inspected the Temajuk PLB area on Wednesday (4/3). The inspection was conducted to ensure readiness of facilities and infrastructure support before Temajuk PLB is inaugurated and fully operational.

He explained that the Public Works Road Agency (Balai Jalan) of the Ministry of Public Works is currently upgrading the Teluk Atong-Temajuk road segment of 1.3 kilometres. Completion of the road access is considered crucial so that mobility of community, officers, and logistics activities to the PLB area runs optimally.

Makhruzi stated that physically the Temajuk PLB construction has been completed. However, there are still supporting works to be finished before operation, such as environmental arrangements around the customs area including construction of a fence, relocation of the Satgas Pamtas Dalduk Post, and dismantling the old customs post.

‘The readiness of these supporting facilities is an important part so that PLB operations can run in an orderly manner in line with cross-border service standards,’ he said.

Furthermore, the reopening of the Indonesia-Malaysia border crossing route (Temajuk-Telok Melano) will be done after the road access is completed. The activation of that route refers to the 2023 Border Crossing Agreement (BCA) between Indonesia and Malaysia.

‘With the reopening of the Temajuk-Telok Melano route, border community mobility is expected to be more orderly and managed through an official channel,’ he added.

He added that service facilities at Temajuk PLB have been prepared to support operations of relevant agencies, ranging from immigration, customs, to quarantine covering health services and animal and plant quarantine.

In operation, BNPP RI will facilitate cross-agency personnel mobilisation and manage Temajuk PLB planned as a PLBN with typology D. Makhruzi hopes the presence of Temajuk PLB will become an official gateway that revitalises Indonesia-Malaysia cross-border activities while strengthening border area surveillance.

In addition to inspecting the PLB, Makhruzi also urged Sambas Regency to prepare land for the planned Defence University by the Defence Ministry in the Sambas area. The presence of this educational institution is expected to strengthen human resources development and support border area development.

BNPP RI, together with the Sambas Regency government, also envisages proposing Sambas as a Border Tourism Special Economic Zone (KEK) in the border sector. The proposal will be prepared through regulatory drafting and coordinated with the Ministry of ATR/BPN and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordination.
