BNPP Strengthens Coordination on 2026 Border Management Action Plan

The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) has reaffirmed that border areas must become the nation’s front porch, capable of driving economic growth, improving public welfare, and strengthening Indonesia’s sovereignty. The statement was made during a coordination forum for the 2026 Border and Frontier Areas Management Action Plan (PBWN-KP) held in Bandung. The forum served as a strategic step to enhance synergy across ministries and agencies, align policies, and accelerate priority programmes to ensure integrated and sustainable border development.

Deputy for Border Area Management at BNPP, Nurdin, emphasised the importance of an integrated border management approach by strengthening Border Area Growth Centres (PPKP), Priority Border Areas (KPP), National Strategic Activity Centres (PKSN), and Cross-Border Posts (PLBN) as public service hubs, connectivity nodes, and drivers of local economic activity. He noted that the success of border development hinges on strong coordination among BNPP members to ensure all programmes are aligned and mutually supportive.

Representing the Deputy for Border Area Potential Management, Assistant Deputy for Spatial Planning Ismawan Harijono stated that the preparation of the 2027-2029 Action Plan focuses on synchronising cross-ministerial programmes to optimise regional potential. This synchronisation is reinforced by the Border Area Management Index, which rose from 0.552 in 2025 to 0.58 in 2026, with a target of 0.72 by 2029. He stressed that developing border potential requires adequate market access, connectivity, and logistics systems, necessitating integrated spatial planning, investment, and cross-sector cooperation, including with neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy for Economic Infrastructure and Public Welfare Harris Fadhly highlighted that infrastructure development across 299 border sub-districts is being carried out through collaboration between 15 ministries, one coordinating ministry, and local governments. He emphasised that the success of the action plan is measured not only by budget absorption but also by physical progress and tangible benefits for the community, requiring regular monitoring, evaluation, and data updates. The forum was opened by BNPP Secretary Makhruzi Rahman and attended by bureau heads, assistant deputies, and representatives from BNPP member institutions.
