During the inspection, Komjen Pol. Makhruzi visited the home of Yulian Hani, a resident of Tasifeto Timur Subdistrict in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, located in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border area. Yulian lives with her husband and one child in a dwelling in a very concerning condition. The house lacks permanent walls, doors, or windows. For resting, Yulian and her family use only a simple wooden bed and a mat, while the roof is still made from tree branches offering minimal protection from the weather. Upon seeing the conditions firsthand, Komjen Pol. Makhruzi emphasised that his presence in the field represents BNPP RI’s commitment to overseeing the implementation of the RTLH quality improvement programme, particularly in border areas. According to him, factual verification is an important step to ensure that aid recipients are not mis-targeted. “We want to check the conditions of residents’ homes that have been proposed ourselves. From the inspection results, this house indeed meets the criteria and is eligible for comprehensive repairs,” he stated in a written remark on Thursday (14/5/2026). He added that the 15,000 RTLH programme is part of the central government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for border communities who have long faced limitations in basic infrastructure. The government, he said, is striving for the programme to be realised as soon as possible in accordance with applicable mechanisms. Meanwhile, Yulian Hani expressed her gratitude for the government’s attention in coming directly to see her living conditions. With a livelihood as a small-scale vegetable farmer alongside her husband, she admitted to often struggling to protect her family from rain and extreme weather in the limited housing conditions. “I am happy and thankful for your visit, Sir. Hopefully, our house can be repaired soon,” she said. During the visit, the BNPP RI Secretary was accompanied by Belu Regent Willybrodus Lay, BNPP RI Expert Group member Nur Kholis, Assistant Deputy for Cross-Border Management BNPP RI Siti Metrianda Akuan, and Head of the Motaain Integrated Cross-Border Post Maria Fatima Rika. For information, the assistance programme for Improving the Quality of 15,000 RTLH in Underdeveloped, Frontier, and Outermost (3T) areas is through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) scheme.
