BNPP RI Plaque Gift to Timor-Leste President and Prime Minister, Symbol of Friendship Between Two Neighbouring Countries

President Jose Ramos Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusme3o of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste received a memento in the form of a plaque from the National Border Management Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNPP RI) during Timor-Leste’s 24th Restoration of Independence Day in Dili on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The gift symbolised friendship and reinforced bilateral ties between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The memento was presented by Shienny Angelita Laiskodat, Timor-Leste’s Special Assistant representing BNPP RI, as part of the state ceremony. On that occasion, Makhruzi Rahman, Secretary of BNPP, attended on behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, who is the head of BNPP RI. Makhruzi was accompanied by BNPP RI Expert Group member Nur Kholis, BNPP RI Planning and Cooperation Bureau Chief Budi Setyono, and the Head of the State Border Post (PLBN) Motaain, Maria Fatima Rika. The presence of the BNPP RI delegation formed part of Indonesia’s official participation in Timor-Leste’s Restoration Day. The act of presenting the memento to the President and Prime Minister of Timor-Leste was interpreted as a gesture of respect and a commitment to maintaining harmonious and enduring relations in the border region. As the agency charged with coordinating border management, BNPP RI administers a number of PLBNs linking Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The PLBNs include Motaain PLBN in Belu Regency, Motamasin PLBN in Malaka Regency, and Wini and Napan PLBNs in North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Border area management is expected not only to serve as the countrys gateway but also to strengthen Indonesia-Timor-Leste bilateral relations.
