BNPP RI Assesses Entikong Border Area Management Index, Maps Development Challenges
The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of Indonesia, through its Assistant Deputy for Land Border Potential (PKPD), conducted measurements and updates of the Border Area Management Index at the Entikong Border Growth Centre (IPKP PPKP) in Entikong and Sekayam subdistricts, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan (Kalbar), on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
Representing the BNPP’s Deputy for Border Potential Management, PKPD Assistant Deputy Brigadier General TNI Topri Daeng Balaw explained that the IPKP assessment aimed to objectively measure border area development achievements and compile a comprehensive regional profile.
He added that the findings would form the basis for mapping development challenges and formulating necessary intervention requirements from relevant ministries and agencies.
“The measurement and updating of the IPKP aims to obtain a realistic picture of border area conditions, including sectors requiring strengthening through cross-ministerial and agency programmes,” he stated.
In customs, there is a need for X-ray scanners at departure terminals for export inspections, which are currently conducted manually.
Regarding immigration services, limited service space is affecting optimal operations, given that an average of 250 people are deported from Malaysia each week.
Topri also revealed plans to reactivate the autogate system at Entikong’s PLBN, with two units each at arrival and departure gates, to expedite immigration processing.
Additionally, immigration authorities are coordinating to reinstate the cross-border pass system to improve services for border communities.
Other basic services are also under scrutiny, particularly the lack of education and healthcare facilities, which drives some residents to seek treatment in neighbouring countries due to better availability.
On local economic development, Topri highlighted the potential of creative industries using palm leaf waste to make woven plates and other economic products.
Furthermore, the Kamboja Farmers Group (Poktan) in Sontas Hamlet, Entikong Village, is developing a rice milling business producing high-quality black and red rice.
These products are already being sold across provinces via online marketplaces and local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
