The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of Indonesia is maturing preparations for the soft launch of the reactivation of the Temajuk-Telok Melano cross-border post between West Kalimantan and Malaysia. The preparations were carried out through coordination with the West Kalimantan Provincial Border Management Agency (BPPD) and various related ministries and agencies on Friday (24/7). The BNPP stated that the preparations must begin with the drafting of a proposal to be submitted to the Chair of the Indonesian Delegation and the Chair of the Malaysian Delegation as the basis for implementing the reactivation of the RI-Malaysia crossing via Temajuk-Telok Melano. This step is part of the government’s efforts to accelerate the reopening of cross-border connectivity while strengthening economic, social, and tourism activities in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area. Budi Setyono, Head of the Planning and Cooperation Bureau at BNPP RI, said the proposal would serve as a joint reference in arranging the series of activities for the reopening of the crossing. The planned main agenda includes the soft launch and a declaration of the reopening of the Indonesia-Malaysia crossing. The moment will be marked by the signing of the declaration and the release of the first cross-border travellers using the PLB stamp. In addition to the main ceremony, BNPP RI also proposed that the event be combined with a sport tourism 5K fun run and an MSME expo. These activities are expected to involve communities from both Indonesia and Malaysia, while encouraging local economic growth, promoting regional flagship products, and strengthening social interaction among border communities. During the forum, BNPP RI also received technical input from relevant agencies, including a suggestion from the Sintete Customs Office to equip the Temajuk PLB with X-ray machines to enhance service and supervision of goods traffic in the border area. Further discussions on the reactivation of the Temajuk-Telok Melano crossing are scheduled to take place at the upcoming Sosek Malindo negotiations at the end of July 2026. Through strengthened coordination with local governments and all stakeholders, BNPP RI hopes the reactivation of the Temajuk-Telok Melano PLB can be realised promptly as a safe and orderly connectivity gateway, while opening new opportunities for improving the welfare of communities in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area.
