BNPP and Kaltara DPRD Discuss Accelerating Krayan Road Construction to Strengthen Border Connectivity

The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of the Republic of Indonesia received an audience with the North Kalimantan Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) to discuss the acceleration of road infrastructure development in the Krayan region, Nunukan Regency. The meeting took place at the BNPP Permanent Secretariat meeting room in Central Jakarta on Friday (24/7/2026). The meeting served as a strategic forum to strengthen coordination between the central government, regional government, and relevant ministries and agencies in driving the acceleration of connectivity development in border areas. The audience was led by the BNPP Assistant Deputy for Physical Infrastructure, Amrullah M. Ridha, and was attended by the North Kalimantan Provincial Assistant for Economy and Development H. Sap’I, the Head of the North Kalimantan Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, the Chairperson of the North Kalimantan DPRD along with other leaders and members, the Secretary of the North Kalimantan DPRD, representatives from the Nunukan Regency DPRD, the Head of South Krayan District, and the Head of the North Kalimantan National Road Implementation Centre. Amrullah M. Ridha explained that the discussions addressed the condition of road infrastructure in Krayan, which still faces significant challenges, particularly as most road sections remain unpaved. “Around 80 per cent of the roads in Krayan are still dirt roads. During the rainy season, these conditions make access extremely difficult,” Amrullah stated. He noted that the 94-kilometre Krayan Ring Road is not yet fully functional, necessitating a phased approach to its completion based on priority. “Therefore, the main priority to be pushed forward is ensuring the roads become functional through hardening, so the benefits can be felt more quickly by the community,” he said. Amrullah stressed that the BNPP continues to strengthen cross-sector synergy to accelerate infrastructure development in border areas. “Close coordination between the central government, regional governments, and relevant ministries and agencies is key to ensuring that development needs can be followed up more effectively,” he explained. On the occasion, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government also expressed its hope that the central government, particularly through the BNPP and the Ministry of Public Works, would provide regulatory and funding support for border area development. This support includes accelerating the construction of the Long Midang Cross-Border Post and the use of more durable road surfacing materials to improve the quality and service life of road infrastructure. Through synergy between the BNPP, the central government, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government, the Nunukan Regency Government, and the National Road Implementation Centre, the acceleration of infrastructure development is expected to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate community mobility, and promote equitable development and services in border areas.
