Jakarta (ANTARA) — Flooding struck several areas in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province due to high-intensity rainfall over the past two days, as reported by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Monday.

Head of the BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday that flooding had inundated several hamlets in Sekotong Batang Village and Batu Putih Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, on Sunday (22/2).

The incident, reported by the West Lombok Regency Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) at 14:00 local time, affected 182 households or 708 individuals. However, no fatalities were reported.

Abdul stated that joint response teams were still conducting assessments and remaining on standby in the field to anticipate the potential for further flooding.

The Bima Regency BPBD recorded material losses comprising one severely damaged house, two affected educational facilities, and one place of worship, one village office, and one market, all of which were impacted by the flooding.

On Sunday evening (22/2), floodwaters in Labuhan Kenangan Village, Tambora District, were recorded at depths of 10 to 70 centimetres, whilst flooding conditions in Kawinda Na’e Village, Rasabou Village, and Oi Panihi were gradually receding.

The BNPB urged residents to remain vigilant against the potential for continued rainfall that could trigger further flooding.
