BNPB: Visibility in Kalimantan Reduced to Only 1 to 1.5 km

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) continues to prioritise the handling of forest and land fires (karhutla) in six provinces. These provinces are West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Riau, South Sumatra, and Jambi.

The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that an increase in hotspots was still occurring in several of these provinces during the period of Saturday (29/08/202<0xC2>6) from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB. He noted that in West Kalimantan, the number of hotspots increased by 553 to reach 3,824 points. However, the number of active fire spots decreased to 16 points.

“We hope that in the future, this trend can also occur in other provinces,” he said during an online press conference on Sunday (30/08/2026).

Meanwhile, the number of hotspots in Central Kalimantan also experienced an increase, reaching 5,391 points, although the number of active fire spots in that region decreased to 65 points. In South Kalimantan, the number of hotspots decreased by 279 to 1,077 points, and the number of active fire spots also fell to just 52 points.
