BNPB to Immediately Build Temporary Shelters for Earthquake Victims in Sigi, Central Sulawesi

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) will immediately begin building temporary shelters (huntara) for communities affected by the earthquake in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. BNPB Head Suharyanto stated that victims are being given the option to either reside in the temporary shelters or receive a monthly housing waiting allowance. “We are offering those who do not wish to enter the huntara a waiting allowance of Rp600,000 per family per month,” he said when met by journalists in Nokilalaki, Sigi, on Friday. He noted that the provision of such waiting allowances has also been implemented during disasters in other regions. He said the local government has been asked to immediately finalise data on heavily and moderately damaged houses. According to data from the Sigi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) as of Friday (19/6), the total number of houses damaged by the earthquake in the area reached 2,319 units, consisting of 1,966 lightly damaged, 219 moderately damaged, and 134 heavily damaged. The number of affected victims totals 8,586 individuals from 2,762 families. The 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the areas of Sigi, Parimo, Donggala, and Palu City in Central Sulawesi on Tuesday (16/6) at 10.27 WIB.
