Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that TNI personnel and residents are working together to install an emergency bridge, or Bailey bridge, to restore transport access that was completely cut off due to a landslide in Temanggung Regency, Central Java.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, stated in Jakarta on Monday that the bridge in Plosogaden Village, Candiroto District, suffered severe damage after being struck by landslide material in mid-May.

“As an effort to restore the affected access, as of Sunday (14/6), residents of Plosogaden Village worked together to install a Bailey bridge, with the mobilisation of bridge materials carried out by TNI personnel from the Yonzipur IV/TK unit together with the local community,” he said.

This reinforcement measure is considered important so that the steel frame bridge has a solid and safe footing when it is eventually used again by both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles belonging to local residents.

Responding to the series of disasters that have occurred, Abdul revealed that the BNPB is urging the public and local governments to continuously improve preparedness and vigilance against various potential disaster threats.

Meanwhile, for residents living in riverbank areas, he said they are also asked to routinely monitor water levels and update weather information from official agencies.

“If high-intensity and long-duration rain occurs, the public is advised to carry out independent evacuation and know safe evacuation routes,” said Abdul Muhari.
