BNPB: Temporary Housing for Aceh Flood Survivors Damaged by Strong Winds

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has announced that at least 58 temporary housing units (huntara) occupied by flash flood survivors in North Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, have been damaged by strong winds.

“The strong winds hitting the region have impacted 58 heads of households and resulted in damage to 58 temporary housing units, which are currently being inventoried,” stated Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, in Jakarta on Thursday.

The complex of temporary housing, which was devastated by the winds on Wednesday, was originally intended for residents surviving the flash floods and landslides that struck the area in late November 202_ [Note: original text says 2025, likely a typo for 2024].

He explained that the incident, affecting four villages (gampong) within the Langkahan District, occurred during the transition period from emergency response to post-disaster recovery, a phase established by the North Aceh Regency Government from late April until 30 July.

The damage to the temporary settlement infrastructure also extended to Geudumbak, Langkahan, and Buket Linteung villages, where seven units of temporary housing were severely damaged, along with one public facility.

Abdul confirmed that joint teams from the BNPB and the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) have been deployed to the site to conduct assessments and coordinate handling. Current reports indicate that the situation is now stable after residents evacuated their belongings to safe locations.
