The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has prepared a series of strategic measures to anticipate potential disasters during the 2026 Lebaran transport period (1447 Hijriah). These efforts are focused on regions expected to experience increased population mobility during the homecoming and return journey periods.

Raditya Jati, Deputy Head of BNPB’s Systems and Strategy Division, explained that preparedness improvements are being undertaken at both local government and community levels. One of the main steps is optimising the utilisation of the Integrated Risk Map platform, or InaRISK.

“InaRISK serves as a disaster risk mapping instrument integrated with data from BMKG, Basarnas, CCTV cameras on various roads, and other information sources,” Raditya stated on Friday (27 February). Through InaRISK, BNPB can dynamically identify homecoming routes and disaster-prone locations. This information can be utilised by stakeholders as a basis for risk-based decision making. The platform can be easily accessed and downloaded through various electronic devices.

Beyond technology utilisation, BNPB also operates a 24-hour hotline at 117. This service allows the public to obtain information or report disasters during the Lebaran holiday period.

BNPB has also issued a circular to governors, regents, and mayors to strengthen preparedness in their respective regions. “Local governments are requested to strengthen inter-agency coordination, ensure personnel and equipment readiness, and optimise support for integrated command posts prepared to support smooth homecoming and return traffic,” he stated.

BNPB will also distribute personnel and logistical support to regions potentially affected by disasters, particularly hydrometeorological events. Personnel will be deployed to conduct monitoring alongside local governments at integrated command posts during the Lebaran period. If necessary, BNPB will coordinate with relevant agencies to implement weather modification operations as a mitigation measure to minimise hydrometeorological disaster risks.

The peak season for 2026 Lebaran transport runs from 6 March to 6 April 2026. BMKG is ensuring readiness to support the smooth and safe conduct of the 2026 Lebaran transport operation through the provision of weather information. The heightened passenger volumes demonstrate strong public enthusiasm in utilising railway services during the Lebaran transport period. During the peak Lebaran period, estimated to fall on 21–22 March, ticket sales reached 6,692 seats. West Java Provincial Government is preparing a compensation scheme for local transport operators as a measure to reduce potential congestion during the homecoming period. The Transportation Ministry opened free travel registration from 1 March, with 401 buses available for 34 destination cities and motorbike transport. The Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned that the potential for extreme weather continues to loom over the homecoming and return journey of Lebaran 2026, particularly in the Central Java region. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Persero announced a 30 per cent discount on train ticket fares beginning sale on Tuesday (10 February). In efforts to manage mobility during the 2026 Lebaran holiday, the government has established a Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy for workers on 16, 17, 25, 26, and 27 March 2026.
