BNPB: Situbondo Forest and Land Fires Extinguished, Emergency Alert Status Until October

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that the forest and land fires (karhutla) that struck several locations in Situbondo Regency, East Java, have been fully extinguished.

Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, said in Jakarta on Friday that the flames in the area are now completely under control thanks to the rapid emergency response on the ground.

The fires were first reported on Wednesday (8/7), with an estimated two hectares of land estimated to have been burned.

“The fire points were located in the Mimbaan urban ward and Juglangan village, Panji Subdistrict,” he said.

BNPB’s Operations Control Directorate reported that Situbondo Regency is still enforcing an emergency alert status for forest and land fires in anticipation of potential follow-up fires during the dry season.

The full state of readiness is legally valid for the period determined by the regional government, from 26 May to 6 October 2026.

“BNPB commends the rapid response of the regional disaster management agency (BPBD), the TNI, the National Police, the Manggala Agni fire brigade, fire services, volunteers and all related elements, whose handling ensured both incidents were quickly brought under control,” he said.
