BNPB: Sidrap Rapid Response Team Accelerates Debris Clearance After Strong Winds

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that the Rapid Response Team (TRC), together with the TNI/Polri in Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap), South Sulawesi, is accelerating the clearance of building debris and fallen trees to restore community activities following a strong wind disaster.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated in Jakarta on Monday that the emergency response was initiated immediately after strong winds accompanied by heavy rain struck at least six village areas in Sidrap Regency on Saturday evening (13/6).

“The team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) promptly carried out emergency handling efforts at the scene by clearing debris and fallen trees. Cross-agency coordination is also being continuously built to accelerate recovery,” he said.

Abdul explained that the emergency response is focused on clearing damaged roofing materials and reopening road access that was temporarily blocked by numerous trees felled by the measured wind gusts.

The damage affected seven residential dwellings, with details of one house sustaining moderate damage and six houses suffering light damage.

Although the windstorm impacted seven heads of family (KK) or 29 individuals in the affected centre, Abdul said the field team confirmed that all residents are safe and there are no reports of casualties.

He assured that the situation at the location is gradually returning to normal as the clearance of public facility routes is completed, whilst further data collection regarding the need for repair stimulus and the fulfilment of basic necessities logistics is still ongoing.
