BNPB: Several damaged bridges functional again after Flores, NTT earthquake
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reported that a number of landslide points, road fractures and damaged bridges have been dealt with and are functional again following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.
Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, said in the ‘Update on Post-M7.7 Earthquake Handling in East Nusa Tenggara – 18 August 20206’ broadcast via BNPB Indonesia’s YouTube channel in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon that the NTT National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) has handled the earthquake’s impact on a number of national road sections and bridges.
He said 32 of 33 landslide points have been dealt with and are functional again, while 4 road fracture points have also been handled and are functional again.
The Wolowaru–Maumere road section can now also be passed by vehicles after being cleared of landslide material caused by the earthquake.
One of the bridges that has been successfully restored is the Wae Pesi Bridge on the Ruteng–Kedindi section, Reok District, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, which previously suffered damage to the expansion joint gap and has now been successfully closed.
To support the acceleration of infrastructure repairs and access for the delivery of various aid, he said 7 excavator units and 4 loader units have been mobilised to vulnerable points.
Meanwhile, regarding the restoration of water resources, he said the Nusa Tenggara II River Basin Agency (BBWS) has carried out coordination and assessment regarding the condition of river basin infrastructure in the affected areas.
Berton said BBWS Nusa Tenggara II has also deployed 13 excavator units, comprising 3 units in Sikka Regency, 8 units at Mbay Dam, 1 unit in West Manggarai Regency and 1 unit in Nangaroro, and has placed 1 drilling rig unit and 2 truck crane units on standby at the SNVT Groundwater and Raw Water Flores workshop.
