BNPB Responds to KPK Sting Operation
Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said all public services and agency operations were continuing normally and as usual amid reports of a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
BNPB Acting Head of the Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre Berton SP Panjaitan said the agency could not provide further comment because it did not yet know the details of the information.
“We cannot provide any statement because we do not know anything yet. What is certain is that there was no sting operation at the BNPB office from morning until noon, and services continued as usual,” Berton said on Tuesday (13 October 2026).
The KPK had earlier confirmed that it had carried out its 22nd sting operation of 2026, involving the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
“That is correct,” KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto said.
Setyo said the KPK’s enforcement team had detained several people in the covert operation, and that they were being questioned further.
However, the KPK has not disclosed the identities or full list of those detained, and said an official explanation would be delivered by KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.
“As for the details of who has been detained, the KPK spokesperson will provide an explanation later,” he said.
Under the applicable provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the anti-corruption agency has 1 x 24 hours to conduct preliminary questioning and determine the legal status of those detained.
