BNPB Respects KPK Sting Operation and Pledges Full Cooperation
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) respects the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation involving the agency. BNPB has called for the presumption of innocence to be upheld.
“BNPB fully respects the legal processes and procedures currently being carried out by the KPK. BNPB upholds the presumption of innocence,” BNPB spokesperson Berton Padjaitan told reporters on Tuesday (13 October 2026).
Berton said BNPB would co-operate and provide full information regarding the KPK’s investigation. The agency also promised not to interfere in the case.
“BNPB is committed to co-operating and providing the data and access to information required in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. BNPB will not intervene in any way in the investigation and inquiry processes conducted by law enforcement authorities,” he said.
Berton said BNPB’s leadership had instructed its Inspectorate General to conduct an internal review and secure documents as part of its internal oversight. The agency also urged its employees to remain focused on disaster response.
“BNPB urges all staff to remain focused on disaster management and humanitarian duties, and not to be distracted by the ongoing legal process,” Berton said.
BNPB asked the public to await the KPK’s official findings and refrain from speculation. “BNPB reaffirms its commitment to strengthening governance, integrity and internal oversight,” he added.
The KPK is known to have conducted a sting operation at BNPB, detaining several people.
“Several people have been detained and are being questioned,” KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto told reporters on Tuesday (13 October).
Setyo did not say who had been detained or provide details about the investigation. Those detained remain under examination, and the KPK has 24 hours to announce their status.
