BNPB: Requests for clean water aid in Semarang and Pasuruan fulfilled

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has ensured that the supply of clean water aid for communities affected by drought in Semarang Regency, Central Java, and Pasuruan Regency, East Java, is now being met periodically. Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, stated in Jakarta on Sunday that the distribution of clean water is part of efforts to fulfil the basic daily needs of residents hit by drought, which has caused their main water sources to dry up. “Entering the dry season, drought disasters impacting clean water availability have begun to occur in several regions. Immediate handling is being carried out by the local BPBD in coordination with village government officials,” he said. Abdul explained that Kemitir Village in Sumowono District has become one of the priority areas for clean water delivery in Semarang, after local residents reported being affected by drought on Saturday (4/7). The BNPB Directorate of Operations Control Coordination confirmed that the amount prepared is intended to meet the daily needs of at least 60 families, covering a total of 84 local residents. Abdul added that a similar effort is also underway in Pasuruan Regency. In this case, the distribution of clean water is focused on two areas experiencing the most severe drought impacts, namely the Krajan 5 and Grobyok hamlets in Kadungrejo Village, Winongan District. The Pasuruan BPBD team has even made four trips using tanker trucks and water tanks with a capacity of more than 1,000 litres to meet the needs of at least 240 local families. “Emergency handling by distributing clean water aid in four trips to Krajan 5 and Grobyok hamlets to meet the basic needs of the affected community,” said Abdul.
