BNPB Reports 45% of Jatiwaringin Landfill Fire Successfully Extinguished

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed significant progress in extinguishing the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency, Banten, with 45 percent of the affected area successfully brought under control. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Communication Centre, stated that this milestone was achieved on the seventh day of emergency operations since the fire first broke out at the waste facility. “Progress in extinguishing the fire has advanced significantly, reaching 45 percent of the total burned area of 14 hectares,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

To accelerate the localisation of the remaining hotspots, the regional government, together with central government ministries and agencies, continues to synergise and optimise firefighting operations through a combination of ground and air task forces. A total of 300 joint personnel from various emergency response units have been deployed en masse to critical points scattered across the landfill site serving residents of Tangerang Regency. The joint team comprises elements from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) across Greater Tangerang, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Manggala Agni task force from the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Environment, and disaster volunteers.

The ground operation is supported by a fleet of 19 fire engines, four water tankers, eight excavators, and eight bulldozers. Abdul added that the tactical response is further reinforced by the deployment of three water-bombing helicopters to target areas difficult to reach from the ground, as well as two wireless aircraft or drones to monitor the spread of the fire.
