BNPB reminds developers that Aceh Tamiang temporary housing must be completed in five days
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, has reminded developers building temporary housing for survivors of flash floods in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh, of the obligation to complete the work within the next five days.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, he emphasised that the construction must be ensured to be finished in less than a week so that it can be occupied by disaster survivors, particularly the temporary housing in Desa Sukajadi, Karang Baru Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang.
BNPB reported that the temporary housing is needed by survivors in the village because they do not own private homes but rent them, and the rented houses were severely damaged by the flash floods at the end of last year.
Since then, he said they have been sheltering in makeshift huts that are unfit for habitation.
BNPB has confirmed that these survivors are a group that does not qualify for government financial assistance because they do not own land or homes, making the temporary housing their hope.
“Here (in Desa Sukajadi), the community previously did not own homes and rented accommodation. When hit by the flood, the rented houses were destroyed, leaving them confused about where to go. They also cannot receive housing allowance funds because they rent and do not own homes. Therefore, BNPB has taken the initiative to build temporary housing for them,” said Suharyanto, who is also the Deputy Chair of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster.
However, in this case, according to Satgas PRR data, they are accommodating a proposal to add 97 temporary housing units from the Regent of Aceh Tamiang.
In addition, Satgas PRR is providing assistance for home repairs in Aceh Tamiang.
The Head of the Regional Command Post (Kaposwil) Aceh for the Satgas PRR Post-Sumatra Disaster, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, stated that the home repair incentive assistance is a concrete step by the government to support the social and economic recovery of affected communities.
The total assistance distributed covers 2,336 homes with minor damage, 1,722 homes with moderate damage, and 1,889 homes with severe damage, with the majority falling into the minor damage category.
The distribution of assistance is focused on four significantly affected subdistricts, namely Rantau, Karang Baru, Bandar Pusaka, and Bendahara. Rantau Subdistrict is recorded as the area with the highest number of aid recipients, followed by Karang Baru, Bandar Pusaka, and Bendahara.
