BNPB Records 2,245 Residents in West and Central Java Affected by Drought
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded that the impact of drought is beginning to be felt in several regions due to minimal rainfall in recent weeks. At least 2,245 residents in Bekasi Regency, West Java, and Klaten Regency, Central Java, are experiencing difficulties obtaining clean water.
In its disaster report for the period 15 June 2026 at 07.00 WIB to 16 June 2026 at 07.00 WIB, BNPB stated that dry hydrometeorological disasters are starting to emerge in several areas, alongside ongoing floods and forest and land fires (karhutla).
In Bekasi Regency, drought has hit Ridogalih Village, Cibarusah District, after the area received no rain for approximately the last month up to Monday (15/6). As a result, 296 families, or around 800 people, are experiencing difficulties obtaining clean water for their daily needs. In response, the Bekasi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has distributed clean water aid to affected residents. BNPB stated that water distribution will continue until all community needs are met.
Similar conditions have also occurred in Klaten Regency, Central Java. The drought, which has lasted throughout June, has affected three villages in Kemalang District: Kendalsari, Tegalmulyo, and Tlogowatu. BNPB recorded that 393 families, or 1,445 people, have been affected by the drought and are experiencing difficulties accessing clean water.
In addition to the drought, BNPB also recorded flooding in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan, on Monday (15/6). The flood affected 44 families, or 278 people, with 36 of them forced to evacuate. Affected areas include Kalasin Village, Beriwit Village, Bahitom Village, Muara Joloi II Village, and Tumbang Lahung Village. Currently, the local BPBD and related agencies are still conducting assessments and handling the situation on the ground. Flood conditions are reported to be gradually receding.
Meanwhile, forest and land fires also occurred in the Bukit Silvia area, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The incident, which occurred on Thursday (11/6), is suspected to have been triggered by hot weather and dry vegetation conditions, causing the fire to spread rapidly across the hilly area.
In response to these various events, BNPB has urged local governments and communities to increase vigilance against potential disasters according to the characteristics of their respective regions.
