The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is providing assistance following the emergency response declared by the Tanah Datar Regency Government after the natural disaster that occurred on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

BNPB’s Senior Disaster Analyst, Yustam Syahril, in Batusangkar on Friday, said that the assistance aims to ensure that basic needs are met in the aftermath of the disaster.

“As reported by the Regent to the BNPB regarding the disaster, we were instructed to conduct a direct review to provide assistance in meeting the basic needs after the disaster,” he said.

He said that the BNPB has already distributed basic necessities, and more aid is on its way to Tanah Datar.

“We will report what we see here, and we also ask the Regent to convey any challenges on the ground so that we can report them to the BNPB leadership,” he said.

The Regent of Tanah Datar, Eka Putra, said that the natural disaster that occurred last Tuesday had a significant impact on four sub-districts, namely Lintau Buo Utara, Lintau Buo, Padang Ganting, and Tanjung Emas.

In these four sub-districts, the most affected areas were rice fields and plantations. In addition, 14 houses were swept away and severely damaged, and more than 60 houses were moderately damaged.

“Other infrastructure, such as 10 bridges, was also severely damaged, including bridges that can be used by four-wheeled vehicles and suspension bridges,” he said.

He also mentioned that the local government has distributed basic necessities, such as food packages and other assistance, such as blankets, to the community.
