BNPB Provides Latest Update on NTT Earthquake: No More Residents Reported Missing

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that there are no longer any reports of missing residents following the earthquake that struck several areas in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, said that as of Monday, 17 August 2026, the agency had not received any further reports of missing persons in the affected areas.

“As of today, 17 August, there are no longer any reports of missing residents in the affected areas,” Berton said in a statement on Monday (17/8/2026).

Although there were no new reports of missing persons, personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) are still being deployed to several affected areas. The teams continue to conduct search and evacuation operations as part of post-earthquake handling.

Handling of earthquake victims is also being carried out through the strengthening of health services. The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has sent two field hospital units to the affected areas.

The two field hospitals have been placed in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, and Nagekeo Regency.

Berton explained that the facilities are needed because a number of hospitals and community health centres (puskesmas) were also affected by the earthquake.

“These field hospitals can serve residents who have become victims, considering that many hospitals and puskesmas have been affected,” he explained.

In addition to sending field hospitals, the Ministry of Health has also deployed teams to support crisis health management in the affected areas.

Berton said the Ministry of Health has sent two health crisis management teams to Sikka Regency and Ende Regency.

The deployment of these teams is intended to support the handling of public health conditions after the earthquake struck several areas in NTT.

The Ministry of Health has also activated the Health Emergency Operation Center as part of coordination for health emergency management.
