Ternate (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is preparing support, with the primary focus over the next two weeks on fulfilling logistical needs in the most remote island areas, such as Pulau Mayau and Tifure Pulau Batang Dua. “We have coordinated to deploy the State Ship (KN) SAR owned by Basarnas to support logistics distribution. In addition, trauma healing support for residents affected by the earthquake will be provided by the Social Affairs Office, assisted by TNI/Polri personnel,” said Director of Region I Handling at BNPB, Agus Riyanto, in Ternate on Sunday. He stated the central government’s readiness to fully support the emergency response phase in North Maluku. BNPB also emphasised that the mechanism for repairing houses damaged by natural disasters or social conflicts will be processed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Previously, the Deputy Governor of North Maluku, Sarbin Sehe, stressed the importance of quick and integrated steps in responding to the impacts of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that shook the North Maluku region on 2 April. The earthquake affected 4 regencies and 2 cities, covering 27 sub-districts and 46 villages/neighbourhoods, with details as follows: Ternate City 7 sub-districts, 15 villages/neighbourhoods; Tidore City 7 sub-districts, 15 villages/neighbourhoods; North Halmahera Regency 3 sub-districts, 3 villages; East Halmahera Regency 2 sub-districts, 2 villages; Central Halmahera Regency 4 sub-districts, 6 villages; and South Halmahera Regency 4 sub-districts and 4 villages. Meanwhile, around 2,000 people were displaced, with 1,107 individuals or 113 households currently still at evacuation sites. Physical damage recorded includes 99 heavily damaged residential houses, 66 moderately damaged, and 139 lightly damaged.
