BNPB: No Fires Detected in Five Priority Provinces for Forest and Land Fire Response
JAKARTA — The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded no further hotspots in five of the six provinces prioritised for forest and land fire response. Fires in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Riau, Jambi and South Sumatra have reportedly been fully extinguished.
Berton SP Panjaitan, acting head of the BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, said the agency had received no further reports of fires in the five priority provinces. Data up to 7am WIB on Thursday (29 October 2026) showed no hotspots there.
“Today, we can report that we will no longer provide updates on forest and land fires in these five provinces, because we have received no data indicating fires in those provinces,” he said at an online press conference on Thursday afternoon.
Nevertheless, the BNPB continues to keep 59 aircraft on standby across the six priority provinces. Weather-modification operations are also continuing to induce rain in the areas concerned.
Berton said the agency had conducted eight weather-modification sorties over Central Kalimantan, using a total of 11,700 kilograms of dry ice and sodium chloride (NaCl). No operation was carried out in South Kalimantan because the region had already experienced heavy rain.
Weather-modification operations were also conducted over South Sumatra, with eight sorties using 10,000 kilograms of dry ice and NaCl.
“Rain has fallen in several places. This rainfall has, of course, also been influenced by the seeding operations we carried out using NaCl,” he said.
