BNPB: No Additional Deaths from NTT Earthquake Today

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has provided an update on the handling of the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). BNPB reported that there were no additional fatalities today, leaving the death toll at 111 people.

“Today we did not record any increase in the number of deaths, so the number of deaths in our records remains 111 people,” said Acting Head of BNPB Data and Information Centre Berton SP Panjaitan during a press conference broadcast on BNPB’s YouTube channel on Friday (28/8/2026).

Berton also stated that since the earthquake on 15 August, 8,794 aftershocks have been recorded. The largest aftershock was magnitude 6.2 and the smallest was magnitude 1.0, with 152 of them felt by residents of NTT.

Furthermore, BNPB reported a decrease in the number of displaced persons today by 712 people. The displaced persons who returned home were in Sikka Regency.

“The decrease occurred in Sikka Regency, bringing the total number of displaced persons to 175,909,” he said.

He urged residents of NTT who are still afraid to return home to enter centralised shelters. Berton said centralised shelters offer a range of services, including public kitchens, food, clean kitchens, and sanitation facilities.
