BNPB Introduces Model Permanent Housing for Flood Survivors in West Sumatra

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has introduced and handed over a model unit of independent permanent housing (huntap) for survivors of flash floods in West Sumatra.

BNPB Primary Secretary Rustian stated in Jakarta on Monday that the handover of the model house key took place on Friday (10/7), while also urging affected residents to immediately occupy the new dwelling.

“We must not let the Huntap remain unoccupied after being built. This house is very decent, the materials are safe, and it is rainproof, so it is very secure,” he said.

Rustian explained that the single unit handed over serves as a pilot model for independent huntap construction utilising a material innovation called SEPABLOCK (Semen Padang Bata Interlock).

However, BNPB has not yet reported in detail the total number of independent huntap units being built for subsequent handover to the flood survivor community in West Sumatra.

Rustian mentioned that the huntap targets flash flood survivors in Padang City, Pariaman City, and Padang Panjang Regency.

“Each house built is a type 36, consisting of two bedrooms, one living room, and a kitchen,” he stated.

He confirmed that BNPB will soon commence mass construction of independent huntap units based on verified databases, following the successful completion of this pilot house project.

“Accelerating huntap construction is the government’s commitment in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase, while also speeding up the recovery process of community life post-disaster,” he added.
