The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has commended the immediate deployment of heavy equipment to assist in extinguishing a fire at the Malabar final processing site (TPA) in Cilacap Regency, Central Java. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated on Wednesday that the heavy machinery was deployed to dismantle the waste piles so that the extinguishing and cooling process could proceed effectively. “Firefighting equipment along with heavy equipment assistance from the UPTD PSWB were deployed to the location to tackle the fire at the TPA in Malabar Village,” he said. Abdul explained that the fire at the TPA in Malabar Village, Wanareja District, occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. local time. “The waste pile containing flammable gases caused the flames to spread rapidly, burning an area of approximately two hectares,” he said. However, according to Abdul, thanks to integrated handling and the dismantling of waste material using an excavator, the fire hotspots at the Malabar TPA have now been completely extinguished. In handling the incident, the Cilacap Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) directly coordinated with the Wanareja District Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam), the Majenang Fire Station Post, and the UPTD for Waste Management and the Banjar Region (PSWB). The extinguishing operation was also assisted by a Majenang fire engine, which was supplied with a continuous water supply from a tanker fleet belonging to the UPTD PKBD Majenang.
