BNPB: Forest and Land Fire in Tojo Una-Una Triggered by Plantation Land Clearing

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has revealed that a forest and land fire in Tojo Una-Una Regency, Central Sulawesi, was triggered by plantation land clearing activities. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Communication Centre, stated that the fire was suspected to have been caused by land clearing conducted without proper supervision, allowing the flames to spread rapidly. The BNPB Operations Control Directorate confirmed the incident affected the Desa Tojo area in Tojo District on Monday (3/8). Dry mineral land conditions combined with strong winds caused the blaze to expand quickly, ultimately scorching approximately 20 hectares. According to the latest report from the Tojo Una-Una Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), there were no casualties. A joint task force comprising BPBD personnel, the fire service, police, and local residents worked collaboratively to localise the fire and prevent it from reaching residential areas or other plantations. As of Monday evening, the firefighting operation was still ongoing, but the situation was reported to be under control, with teams continuing cooling down operations and intensive monitoring to prevent any reignition from wind-blown embers.
