BNPB: Forest and Land Fire Hotspots in Central Kalimantan Rise to 4,359 Points

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has revealed that the number of hotspots from forest and land fires (karhutla) in Central Kalimantan continues to rise and has now reached 4,359 points.

“In Central Kalimantan there are 93 fire points, but hotspots increased by 412, bringing the total to 4,359 points,” said Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, during a press conference on Friday (28/8).

This data is based on the Ministry of Forestry’s SiPongi system for 27 August 2026, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIB.

BNPB also reported that the area of land burned in Central Kalimantan has now reached more than 7,634 hectares.

However, visibility is still considered normal at nine kilometres.

Ground operations in Central Kalimantan are currently focused on extinguishing fires, limiting the spread of flames, and cooling affected areas. Firefighting operations have reportedly been carried out on 257 hectares of land in Pulang Pisau and 10 hectares in Seruyan.

“These forest and land fire operations are being conducted through both ground and air operations in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi,” Berton stated.
