BNPB: Forest and land fire emergency alert in Ponorogo active until November
Ponorogo Regency is currently maintaining the Forest and Land Fire (karhutla) Emergency Alert Status, in effect from 26 May until 6 November 2026.
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has stated that the Forest and Land Fire Emergency Alert Status in Ponorogo Regency, East Java, will remain active from May through November.
“Ponorogo Regency is currently maintaining the Forest and Land Fire Emergency Alert Status, which applies from 26 May until 6 November 2026,” said Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, the relatively long duration of the emergency alert status is a preparedness measure taken by the regional government to anticipate potential fire threats throughout the dry season.
This heightened vigilance is considered crucial given that a karhutla incident had only recently struck the area, specifically in Karangjoho Village, Badegan Subdistrict, which was reported to have caught fire on Wednesday (9 July).
Although the emergency alert status remains active, BNPB confirmed that the flames at the location were fully brought under control and completely extinguished by a joint team on Thursday (10 July).
Through the rapid response in extinguishing and localising the fire points by personnel in the field, the spread of the blaze, which had the potential to damage the hillside ecosystem, was prevented as early as possible.
“The joint team succeeded in controlling and extinguishing the fire on Thursday (10 July), and it was confirmed that the fire did not spread,” Abdul affirmed.
