The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that regional Disaster Mitigation Agencies (BPBD) in three provinces are distributing tens of thousands of litres of clean water to tackle the expanding impact of the dry season, in the form of drought, affecting communities since early June 2026. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated in Jakarta on Monday (21/6) that the clean water distribution using tanker trucks is being carried out intensively in West Java, Central Java, and West Nusa Tenggara. “Responding to the widening clean water problem due to the dry season, tanker fleets from the BPBD in each region are moving simultaneously to ensure the water supply for residents’ daily needs can be met,” he said. He explained that in West Java, drought has hit Bekasi Regency, affecting residents of Nagasari Village, Serang Baru District, and Ridogalih Village, Cibarusah District, with an initial total aid of 10,000 litres of clean water. In Central Java Province, drought has struck Banjarnegara Regency, prompting the dispatch of four water tanks with a total volume of 20,000 litres to mitigate the impact of clean water scarcity in Serang Village, Bawang District. In addressing the widening phenomenon of this meteorological drought, the BNPB is urging communities in affected areas to begin implementing conservation measures and prioritising wise water use, including optimising independent rainwater harvesting. “Meanwhile, to local governments, the BNPB is requesting long-term prevention steps through the construction of embung or large-scale water storage reservoirs in vulnerable points as a reserve supply of clean water for residents,” said Abdul Muhari.
