BNPB: Emergency Teams Respond Swiftly to Floods and Tornado in Deli Serdang

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that joint emergency teams moved swiftly to handle the impact of floods and a tornado that struck the Deli Serdang Regency in North Sumatra. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated in Jakarta on Sunday that the emergency response on the ground is proceeding tactically to ensure the safety of residents and accelerate the recovery of the affected environment.

Officers from the Deli Serdang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) immediately deployed a rapid reaction team (TRC), along with TNI/Polri personnel, to the scene to conduct rapid assessments, monitor conditions on the ground, and assist with clean-up operations. Abdul explained that the flood event, triggered by high-intensity rainfall, previously hit the Paluh Kemiri Village area in Lubuk Pakam District in the early hours of Saturday (4/7). The disaster was reported to have directly impacted at least 27 families, encompassing 108 local residents.

Meanwhile, a strong wind or tornado disaster was reported to have struck six villages in the Pancur Batu District area on Friday (3/7). The six village areas affected by the strong wind vortex include Salam Tani Village, Hulu Village, Lama Village, Namo Rih Village, Namo Bintang Village, and Pertampilen Village. The BNPB Directorate of Operational Control Coordination confirmed that the physical damage caused by this extreme weather affected 15 families or 54 individuals, with material losses including eight houses suffering minor damage and seven houses experiencing moderate damage. Abdul confirmed that conditions at the locations affected by the strong winds are now gradually becoming conducive and all residents have been reported to have returned to their respective homes.
