Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has revealed that the emergency response status for hydrometeorological disasters in Kudus Regency, Central Java, will remain in effect until 31 May 2026, following a series of heavy rain events accompanied by strong winds that damaged hundreds of residents’ homes.

Head of the BNPB Centre for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Abdul Muhari, in Jakarta on Wednesday, stated that the emergency alert status is outlined in the Decree of the Regent of Kudus Number 300.2/296/2025, which covers preparedness against threats of flooding, landslides, and strong winds to accelerate disaster response efforts.

According to Abdul, this mitigation measure also applies to addressing the strong winds that struck four villages in Undaan Subdistrict, namely Terangmas Village, Kalirejo, Glagahwaru, and Medini, on Monday afternoon (30/3).

“Based on the rapid assessment report, two units of residents’ homes were reported to have suffered severe damage from being hit by strong winds, and one resident sustained injuries,” he said.

According to Abdul, the declaration of the emergency alert status allows for more integrated mobilisation of resources between the TNI, Police, and volunteers in carrying out emergency handling for 397 affected family heads.

The BNPB Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) received reports that the joint team of personnel in Kudus is currently conducting in-depth data collection on 395 other affected housing units to classify the level of damage and determine further rehabilitation steps.

BNPB has urged authorities in Central Java to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination, given the potential for extreme weather that is predicted to continue for the next few weeks.
