BNPB: Drought in Central Java Under Maximum Handling
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that the drought events resulting from the dry season affecting several areas in Central Java are currently under maximum handling.
Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that emergency response efforts through the distribution of clean water continue to be massively intensified by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in the affected areas.
“Emergency drought response efforts due to the dry season are still being observed in several areas in Central Java, including Banyumas, Boyolali, and Klaten Regencies,” he said.
Abdul explained that maximum handling in Banyumas Regency is being carried out by the local BPBD by distributing 5,000 litres of clean water aid to residents of Taman Sari Village, Karanglewas District.
Meanwhile, for the Boyolali Regency area, emergency handling has been realised through the delivery of 10,000 litres of clean water to Ketoyan Village in Wonosegoro District and Samiran Village in Selo District to supply the needs of 42 affected families.
He explained that cumulatively, the total clean water aid distributed in the Klaten area has reached 169 tanks, equivalent to 845,000 litres, which has benefited 2,970 families in four vulnerable villages.
The distribution areas receiving water supply in Klaten include Tlogowatu Village, Tegalmulyo Village, Kendalsari Village, and Sidorejo Village, which are periodically monitored by field officers.
In response to these developments, the BNPB has urged the public and local governments to increase preparedness for the dry season by using water wisely and avoiding land burning activities.
“Local governments are expected to continue strengthening mitigation through monitoring vulnerable areas, resource readiness, and ensuring the availability of clean water logistics for communities potentially affected by drought,” Abdul emphasised.
