BNPB Deploys Mobile Kitchen Unit for Gayo Lues Flood Evacuees
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has deployed a mobile field kitchen unit to support the provision of food for flood survivors in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh.
BNPB Head Suharyanto stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the mobile field kitchen unit is expected to arrive at evacuation sites on Saturday 14 March to serve the logistics needs of survivors currently sheltering at local government facilities.
“Basic needs assistance and non-food aid. Additionally, BNPB is deploying a mobile field kitchen unit which is expected to arrive this Saturday,” he said.
The mobile field kitchen unit has been prioritised to serve approximately 38 families of flood survivors sheltering at the Vocational Training Centre (BLK) building operated by Gayo Lues Regency Government.
The families are residents of Pepelah Village in Pining District whose homes were destroyed by flooding on 25 November 2025, and who have since been surviving in emergency tents far from adequate living conditions.
As a result, BNPB and Gayo Lues Regency Government have jointly decided to utilise the BLK facility as a temporary evacuation centre.
The BLK building has been deemed highly suitable and comfortable for observing Ramadan fasting and Eid celebrations compared to surviving in tents.
“Whilst reconstruction housing is being built - it should be completed in at least two weeks - they will stay here rather than in tents. A communal kitchen will be set up, meals will be prepared for them, they just need to eat, making conditions more comfortable here,” he said.
