BNPB Corrects NTT Earthquake Victim Data, One Person Confirmed Dead
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto stated that the earthquake in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), resulted in one fatality. He corrected the previously reported death toll of two. “Based on the results of data updating and validation in the field as of 08.00 WIB, one person was recorded dead and four people were injured. The deceased was a resident of Sikka Regency, while the injured were recorded in Sikka Regency and Nagekeo Regency,” Suharyanto said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday (15/8/2026). Previously, the initial report mentioned two fatalities. However, after verification and validation by officers in the field, the data was updated to one fatality. “BNPB apologises for this matter in the initial report and will continue to ensure that every piece of information conveyed has undergone a verification process,” he said. Currently, data collection and verification of victims and other impacts are still being carried out by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with relevant elements in the field. In addition, around 2,000 residents in Nagekeo Regency carried out independent evacuation as a precautionary measure following the earthquake and a tsunami early warning.
