BNPB Confirms No Fatalities in Forest and Land Fires Across Aceh, West Java, and Central Java
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed there were no fatalities resulting from forest and land fires (karhutla) in the provinces of Aceh, West Java, and Central Java. “With the handling efforts carried out by the joint task force in the regions, it is reported that there were no casualties arising from the series of fire incidents,” said Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6). He stated that a forest and land fire scorched four hectares of land in Gentan Village, Bulu District, Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, on Saturday evening (27/6). The fire was only fully extinguished on Sunday (28/6) by a joint team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and volunteers. There were no casualties. Meanwhile, in Aceh Province, a forest and land fire occurred on the mainland in Birem Puntong Village, Langsa Baro District, Langsa City, Aceh, on Sunday (28/6). According to the BNPB, the fire in Aceh was caused by waste burning activities by residents. In West Java, a forest and land fire occurred in Tomo Village, Tomo District, Sumedang Regency, with the burned area reaching two hectares. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he concluded.
