BNPB Confirms Joint Team Deployed to Tackle Aceh Utara Floods
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that a joint team has been deployed to handle the impact of flash floods in North Aceh Regency, Aceh, which have destroyed four bridges in the area. Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, stated on Monday that emergency response is being prioritised to restore mobility access for disaster survivors. “Personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in the field continue to coordinate with cross-sector agencies to carry out post-flood emergency response actions,” he said. Abdul explained that the flood disaster struck the Sawang Village area, Sawang District, North Aceh Regency, on Friday afternoon around 17.00 WIB. The BNPB Operations Control Centre confirmed that the extremely strong currents reportedly damaged four key inter-regional connecting bridges in the area. This condition has completely cut off transportation access connecting Sawang Village to four other villages, namely Lhok Cut, Kubut, Blang Cut, and Gunci. Abdul stated that the BNPB will continue to monitor the handling on the ground and coordinate with the North Aceh Regency Government and relevant ministries or agencies to prepare emergency crossing solutions and gradually restore the bridge infrastructure.
