BNPB Confirms Joint Team Deployed to Tackle Aceh Utara Floods

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that joint teams have been deployed to handle the impact of flooding in North Aceh Regency, Aceh, which has damaged four bridges in the local area.

Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, said in Jakarta on Monday that emergency response efforts remain the priority in order to restore mobility access for disaster survivors.

“BPBD officers in the field continue to coordinate with cross-sectoral agencies to carry out emergency response measures following the flood disaster,” he said.

Abdul explained that the flooding struck Sawang Village in Sawang District, North Aceh Regency, on Friday (24/7) at around 5.00pm local time.

BNPB’s Central Operations Control Directorate confirmed that the extremely strong water currents reported by officers had damaged four main bridges linking areas across the region.

The conditions have completely severed transport access connecting Sawang Village to four other villages, namely Lhok Cut, Kubut, Blang Cut and Gunci villages.

According to Abdul, BNPB will continue to monitor response efforts in the field and coordinate with the North Aceh Regency administration and relevant ministries and agencies to prepare emergency crossing solutions and gradually restore bridge infrastructure.
