BNPB Confirms Joint Task Force Still on Alert for Flooding in West Aceh

Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that joint task force personnel remain on the ground to handle the ongoing impact of flooding that struck West Aceh Regency, Aceh.

“The floodwaters are gradually receding, but the rapid reaction team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is still at the location to carry out further handling and to assess residents’ material losses,” said Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Communication Centre for Disasters, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, the joint task force, commanded by the West Aceh BPBD, has also deployed rubber boats for the evacuation of residents and distributed food logistics aid to meet basic needs.

The BNPB Operations Control Centre reported that a rapid assessment recorded at least 130 residential units were submerged, with a total of 300 people directly affected by the flooding on Monday (15/6).

The incident began when the water level of the Krueng Woyla River overflowed beyond its embankment, unable to contain the high intensity of rainfall, inundating residential areas in Gampong Alue Keumuneng, West Woyla District.

The BNPB has confirmed the situation is now conducive, but according to Abdul, the public and local government are still urged to continuously improve their preparedness and vigilance against various potential disaster threats.

“If high-intensity and long-duration rainfall occurs, residents, especially those near river basins, are advised to immediately monitor the water level. If it exceeds the safe limit, carry out self-evacuation and secure valuables and important documents,” he said.
