BNPB Confirms 3-Hectare Land Fire in Gresik Housing Estate Extinguished, Cause Still Under Investigation
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that a land fire covering approximately three hectares in the Sentraland housing complex area, Gresik Regency, East Java, has been completely extinguished. Conditions at the site are now reported to be under control, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire occurred on vacant land in Randegansari Village, Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency, on Saturday, 18 July 2026, at around 1.45 pm Western Indonesian Time. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated that a joint task force moved swiftly after receiving reports of the hotspot. ‘Based on the latest conditions, the fire has been successfully extinguished and the situation at the location is under control,’ Abdul Muhari said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, 20 July 2026. The response effort was carried out by various units that immediately headed to the location upon receiving the fire report. Personnel from the East Java Provincial Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Gresik Regency BPBD conducted an initial assessment and coordinated with the local Fire Department to extinguish the flames. The integrated firefighting effort successfully brought the blaze under control and ensured it did not spread to other areas surrounding the incident site. The rapid response of officers was a key factor in the firefighting process, preventing the fire from expanding further. Based on temporary data collection at the field, the BNPB confirmed that the incident caused no fatalities or injuries. Although the burned area reached around three hectares, the event only affected vacant land within the housing complex, and no casualties among residents were reported. Officers continue to monitor the location to ensure there are no new hotspots that could potentially trigger a subsequent fire. Following the completion of the extinguishing process, the authorities and related agencies are now investigating the exact cause of the fire.
