BNPB: Clean Water Supply Reaches Six Sub-districts in Banyumas

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that government clean water supplies are reaching six sub-districts in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, to address the impacts of widespread drought in the area. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, reported on Tuesday that the drought, triggered by reduced rainfall during the dry season, has affected at least 1,820 families or 5,648 residents. The affected residents targeted by the clean water distribution are located in the sub-districts of Purwokerto Timur, Karanglewas, Sumpiuh, Jatilawang, Cilongok, and Kemranjen. He stated that in addition to supplying clean water aid, the Banyumas Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and local authorities have moved swiftly to prepare water storage facilities. The BNPB Operations Control Centre confirmed that as of Monday (13/7), the Banyumas BPBD team had distributed 5,000 litres of clean water to two vulnerable points in Kedungpring Village, Kemranjen Sub-district, using water tanker trucks. ‘In addition to direct filling, the clean water has also been distributed to residents via 2,000-litre water tanks and other available storage facilities within residential areas,’ Abdul Muhari said. He expressed hope that this expanded distribution coverage would sustainably mitigate the risk of clean water shortages during the peak of the dry season in the Banyumas region and its surroundings.
