BNPB Chief Inaugurates Bailey Bridge in Plosogaden, Temanggung

The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, inaugurated a bailey bridge in Plosogaden Village, Candiroto, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, on Friday to support the restoration of public transport access. He stated that the bailey bridge, installed to replace access cut off by a disaster in Temanggung Regency, has the potential to become an asset of the Temanggung Regency Government. Its utilisation will be adjusted to regional needs once the emergency response period concludes. The installation of the bailey bridge is a rapid measure to restore public mobility. The infrastructure is an asset of the Indonesian Army, loaned through BNPB coordination so that residents’ access can quickly return to normal. According to Suharyanto, once conditions have fully recovered, the local government has the discretion to determine the bridge’s future use. The bailey bridge can be retained and made an asset of Temanggung Regency if deemed still viable, or replaced with a permanent bridge as needed. “The most important thing is that people’s lives recover immediately. After that, the local government can decide whether this bridge will be made permanent or a new bridge built. Everything is adjusted to regional needs,” he said. He emphasised that the central government is ready to support the acceleration of infrastructure handling in disaster-affected areas. President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that disaster management should not be hampered by budget issues, ensuring all urgent regional needs can be promptly met. Temanggung Regent Agus Setyawan said the restoration of the bridge’s function in Plosogaden Village is important news for the community after their main access was cut off due to the disaster. Although located on a village road, the bridge is a vital link supporting residents’ mobility and local economic activities. While the bridge was impassable, residents had to use an emergency route only accessible by two-wheeled vehicles, disrupting students’ journeys to school, the distribution of agricultural produce, and trading and public service activities.
