BNPB Case: KPK to Write to TNI Commander over Active-Duty Soldier
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it would write to the TNI Commander as part of its investigation into alleged corruption involving the use of the National Disaster Management Agency’s (BNPB) ready-to-use funds, a case involving an active-duty soldier.
“Of course, we will formally write to the TNI Commander because this concerns active-duty TNI personnel,” said Achmad Taufik Husein, acting director of investigations at the KPK, at the agency’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday evening (16 October).
Taufik said the KPK would also collaborate with the TNI in handling the case.
“Our approach is collaborative, so that there is synergy in the handling process,” he said.
“So we are not conducting the investigation separately; rather, there will be cooperation in the investigative process,” he added.
The KPK previously conducted a sting operation at the BNPB on 13 October 2026, detaining 15 people.
The following day, the KPK named five people as suspects in the case. One was Bima Setiawan, the younger brother of former BNPB chief Lieutenant General Suharyanto.
Bima had also served as an expert adviser to the BNPB chief while Suharyanto was in office.
The other four suspects are Gabriel Purwaka Sigit, a commitment-making official and head of the BNPB Subdirectorate for the Management of Assistance and Emergency Funds; expert adviser to the BNPB chief Richard Erlangga; Gery Prasetiawan, director of PT Trans Lintas Selaras; and private-sector individual Syifa Nrika Ghifarin.
On 16 October 2026, the KPK disclosed that it had seized evidence worth Rp5.47 billion. This included US$7,500, S$9,000, Rp3.35 billion, 56 gold pieces weighing a total of 133 grams and valued at Rp315.8 million, gold savings weighing 192 grams and valued at Rp452 million, and crypto assets worth Rp1.10 billion.
The KPK also said it had searched the BNPB chief’s office and several other rooms during searches conducted on 14–15 October 2026.
