JAKARTA (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the breached Godo River embankment, unable to withstand increased water flow following heavy rainfall, has exacerbated flooding in residential areas of Pati Regency, Central Java. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB’s Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, stated in a press release on Sunday that the hydro-meteorological disaster affected Tanjunganom Village in Gabus District, Pati, since early Saturday (23 May). “The incident was triggered by intense rainfall in the area, causing the Godo River to overflow and breach its embankment, submerging residential areas,” he said. The BNPB’s Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) confirmed that the Pati Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) rapid response team, alongside joint teams, has been deployed to the site to conduct rapid assessments, monitor river water levels regularly, and coordinate closely with local village authorities. Flood conditions in Tanjunganom Village have reportedly begun to recede, according to the latest visual data collected by the BNPB’s Operations Control Centre. However, Abdul urged residents near the river to remain vigilant against potential extreme weather that could cause sudden increases in water levels.
