BNPB asks for clean water networks to be connected to all temporary shelters in Aceh
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has requested that clean water networks be connected to all temporary shelters (huntara) occupied by disaster survivors in Aceh Province.
The connection of the clean water network is one of the instructions given by Suharyanto, Head of BNPB and Deputy Head II of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) after the Sumatra disaster, to field officers during his visit to the temporary shelter location in Pulo Tiga, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh, on Wednesday (25/2).
As stated in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Suharyanto said that clean water is one of the urgent needs, along with basic food supplies, for disaster survivors in Aceh to support their well-being during the month of Ramadan.
“Accelerate the fulfillment of urgent needs, including the provision of clean water supplies through a pipeline network connected directly to water storage facilities at the temporary shelter locations,” he said.
Suharyanto and the BNPB leadership team are scheduled to conduct visits and distribute additional logistical assistance for the fasting month to several residents of temporary shelters in Aceh Province, including Aceh Tamiang Regency, East Aceh Regency, North Aceh Regency, and Langsa City, in the coming days.
Based on data from the Aceh Satgas PRR Command Post, as many as 8,562 temporary shelter units have been established by the government in the province as of the second ten-day period of February.
The temporary shelter in Pulo Tiga is a rapid disaster response facility built by BNPB and is equipped with wells, bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, and electricity networks.
BNPB reported that 30 families occupy the Pulo Tiga temporary shelter, which has been in use for the past week, along with 1,295 other temporary shelter units in Aceh Tamiang Regency.
The refugees who occupy the Pulo Tiga temporary shelter are residents of Dusun Tempel, Tamiang Hulu District, Aceh Tamiang, who were relocated by the government from their village because their homes were destroyed by a flash flood at the end of November 2025.
